The Division 2 breaks its own concurrent Steam record, 7 years after it was first released

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has broken its own concurrent record on Steam this weekend as players jump into the series’ ten-year anniversary celebrations.

New content and a clear roadmap have brought more new and returning players to the franchise, and while it’s a long way from scaling the heights of the original game, which hit an all-time Steam concurrent peak of 114,228 players when it was released a decade ago, The Division 2 has seen an extraordinary resurgence, almost doubling its previous peak of 14,858 players this Sunday (8th March).

It’s possible the record has changed again by the time you read this (it’s gone up four times since I began drafting this article), but at the time of writing, The Division 2 is currently sitting on a brand-new all-time concurrent peak of 26,459 players – the highest ever since it launched in 2019.

Don’t forget that The Division 2’s limited-time Realism Mode will only be around during the four-week Anniversary Season, which lasts until 1st April. During that time, the Warlords of New York expansion will be available to everyone at no additional cost, along with extra rewards and events will happen throughout the season.

Realism Mode also lines up with Massive’s ambitious plans for The Division 2: Survivors, a new extraction experience that sounds like a perfect fit for the franchise’s harsh post-pandemic United States setting.

“The Division 2: Survivors is as much your baby as it is ours, and we strive for transparency during its development,” former producer Julian Gerighty said at last year’s Gamescom. “Clear communication and community involvement are a focus as we build the new experience, and we will be closely involving you as we move forward on the development journey.”

The Division 3 still hasn’t got a release date are remains a bit of a mystery, although we did learn in the new year that Gerighty had left Ubisoft to join Battlefield Studios.
