After listening to your complaints, Bungie is making it just a tad less annoying to buy cosmetics in Marathon

Upon Marathon’s launch earlier this week, Bungie revealed a pair of in-game currencies that you have to use to unlock various bits. One is called SILK, which you can earn through play and is used to unlock rewards in rewards passes. The other is LUX, a premium currency you have to spend real, cold, hard cash on to get, though its sole purpose is for cosmetics. However, much like all in-game currencies that cost real-world money, the amount you can buy and the amount it costs to buy cosmetics didn’t line up, leading to a good bit of pushback that has resulted in Bungie simply giving you more bang for your buck.

As it currently stands, a runner skin will set you back 1120 LUX. Except you couldn’t get exactly 1120 LUX in the game’s store, you could only get 1100, which cost $10, and the next cheapest lot of LUX is $5 for 500 of the stuff, meaning spending more than you need to. However, in an upcoming patch, according to a post from the Marathon Development Team Dwitter account, the $10 LUX bundle will now be increased to 1120, with anyone that’s paid for said bundle so far getting 20 LUX deposited into their account per bundle purchased prior to the change. Microtransactions still stink! But at least this is sort of like spraying some air freshener.

This same post also said the team has “seen the rest of your feedback about Marathon’s purchasable cosmetics,” and is apparently “discussing ways to improve this experience.” Will probably have to wait a while for anything concrete there, though. On top of all that, the game will be getting its first proper update next week, with the post also previewing a few of the changes you can expect:

  • Increased the distance objective nav points appear from 10m to 20m.
  • Increased the number of Med Cabinets and Munitions Crates that can spawn on Perimeter.
  • Increased the amount of starting ammo in MIDA, CyberAcme, and Arachne free Sponsored Kits.

All changes that sound like they should make playing a tad less annoying! Won’t rescue your presumably already lost gear (dying’s the point, or so I heard), but they might help you retain your current loot. Now if only Bungie could start figuring out how to tell a story with Julian’s Discord mates in mind.
