Menace’s first roadmap, while light on details and dates, is here to give you an idea of what’s on the way

Menace, the latest very XCOM-ish game from Battle Brothers developer Overhype Studios, has been out in early access for about a month now, and with that the arrival of a roadmap has appeared to grace us with very sparse details regarding what you can expect in the game’s numerous updates to come.

For starters, there’s the continuous changes and additions that will come throughout early access such as new weapons, items and enemy variants, bug fixes and balance adjustments, new operations and missions, alongside UI and AI improvements. When it comes to major updates, there’ll be three lots of squad leader reinforcement drops.

One will include some new squad leaders based on story factions in the game, the second will include squad leaders based on marine and wayback based characters, and the third will be based on story factions once again. There are also two main story expansions planned, but these, alongside the rest of the updates detailed in the roadmap, had no dates, or even release windows, attached to them.

A trio of redacted system and feature updates were also listed, with only the third containing a tiny bit of information: “adding new large boss unit and new small unit.” An OCI overhaul and character interaction updates are also in the works. When it comes to world and campaign updates, you can also expect a rework of the existing planet environment, some new planet additions including new planets with environments with sub-biomes, and “planet-linked story factions and OCIs.”

Quite a lot of stuff on the way it sounds like! Just nebulously in the future, that’s all, a purposeful move from the devs, as they explained in a Steam post, “we explicitly decided against showing a predetermined order for adding the features. We will go with the flow and repeatedly evaluate which feature makes the most sense to be added next. The problem with rigid roadmaps is that they impose strict boundaries on our development process, and that is not how we want to work.”

If you’ve not had a go at Menace just yet, it’s available to pick up on Steam in early access right now.
