Eagles rewarded defensive tackle Jordan Davis after his breakout season last year. The Eagles reportedly reached an agreement to sign Davis to a 3-year, $78M extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
This extension makes Davis the highest-paid nose tackle in NFL history. Davis was set to play next season on a fifth-year option and was scheduled to hit free agency next year before signing his extension.

Davis has become a key player on defense under Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. When former Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams signed with the New England Patriots last offseason, Davis took on a more full-time role and excelled. Last season, the 26-year-old finished with 72 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 11.5 run stuffs, and 6 batted passes, all career highs.
In Davis’s first three seasons, he mainly played an early-down role, helping the Eagles primarily on running downs and being subbed out when the team needed a pass rush.
Davis was drafted with the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. His athleticism stood out on Georgia’s defense and at the NFL combine, where he ran a 4.78 40-yard dash and had a 10’3″ broad jump at 6’6″, 341 pounds. Davis has since cut weight to 336 pounds and appears more agile.
With Davis now secured, the Eagles will focus on extending Jalen Carter. Carter and Davis have lined up next to each other since their days at Georgia. While Davis is more of a run stuffer, Carter offers more upside as a pass rusher.

With Carter getting drafted in 2023, he could be under contract at least two more seasons if the Eagles pick up his fifth-year option before deciding if they want to extend him.
Davis could take on more of a pass-rushing role next season with pass rushers such as Jaelan Phillips, Joshua Uche, Azeez Ojulari and Ogbo Okoronkwo set to hit free agency. Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean, who played with Davis and Carter at the University of Georgia, is also set to enter free agency.
The Eagles are coming off an 11-6 season and lost in the wild-card round to the San Francisco 49ers.
