Camper Names Abraham Ortuno as Its New Creative Director

Camper has found its new creative director.

On Thursday, the Spanish footwear brand named Abra founder and designer Abraham Ortuño as the new creative director of Camper and CamperLab. In his new role, the Spanish designer will lead the creative direction across product and brand communication, overseeing both Camper and CamperLab.

The fall/winter 2027 season will mark Ortuño’s creative debut for Camper and CamperLab. The new creative direction will be unveiled in early 2027, with the collection launching globally in June 2027.

Ortuño succeeds Finnish-born designer Achilles Ion Gabriel, who announced his departure from the brand in January after more than six years at the company. The spring/summer 2027 collection will be the last one under Ion Gabriel’s creative direction.

Miguel Fluxà, chief executive officer of Camper, said in a statement that Ortuño “represents a new generation of creative leadership.”

“His deep understanding of footwear, combined with a strong cultural sensibility and international perspective, makes him the ideal person to guide Camper into its next phase,” Fluxà noted. “We believe his vision will strengthen our design identity while opening new creative territories. We are very excited to start this new chapter together.”

Born in Alicante, Spain, Ortuño built his career at the intersection of craft and experimentation. Before founding Abra in 2019, he collaborated with fashion houses Jacquemus, JW Anderson, Loewe and Kenzo, helping develop footwear designs such as Anderson’s paw-shaped loafers and mules that became widely recognized within the industry.

“As a Spanish designer, Camper has always represented the pinnacle of our country’s design legacy – a brand that fearlessly balances Mediterranean pragmatism with a profound sense of play,” Ortuño said. “I look forward to honoring that rich archive while introducing a new, subversive energy to both the mainline and CamperLab. We are going to push the boundaries of footwear, blending irony, craftsmanship, and contemporary culture.”

This news comes after CamperLab hosted its first-ever runway show during Paris men’s fashion week – bringing the then creative director Ion Gabriel’s full brand vision to life through footwear, ready-to-wear and accessories.

In March 2025, CamperLab opened a new store in Paris’ Marais neighborhood.
