Minister LeBlanc concludes visit to Mexico strengthening trade and diplomatic relations

December 4, 2025 – Mexico City, Mexico – Global Affairs Canada

Canada and Mexico share a longstanding partnership built on strong people-to-people, economic and cultural ties. In September 2025, our two countries elevated their relationship through the launch of the Canada-Mexico Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Guided by the Canada–Mexico Action Plan (CMAP), it seeks to make North America the most competitive, dynamic, and resilient economic region in the world.

Building on this partnership, today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, concluded a visit to Mexico City.

During his visit, Minister LeBlanc met with his counterpart, Secretary of the Economy Marcelo Ebrard, to strengthen trade and investment ties and advance key priorities, including under the Prosperity pillar of the CMAP. These discussions reaffirmed Canada and Mexico’s shared commitment to deepening their partnership in support of workers and businesses in both countries.

Minister LeBlanc, accompanied by a Canadian delegation of business associations, also engaged with government officials and industry leaders to identify opportunities in priority sectors, including advanced manufacturing, agriculture, clean technologies and energy, defence, creative industries, and information and communications industries. These exchanges advanced Canada’s trade diversification objectives by strengthening economic ties and highlighting new trade opportunities.

This visit laid the groundwork for the upcoming Team Canada Trade Mission to Mexico Minister LeBlanc will lead in February 2026, which will bring a large contingent of Canadian companies to explore business opportunities and expand their presence in Mexico.
