The new Mega Stone is available via Mystery Gift, with a catch
As revealed during the Pokémon Presents stream celebrating 30 years of the franchise, Pokémon Legends: Z-A players can now get a new Mega Stone for Garchomp for its new Mega Garchomp Z Mega Evolution. You’ll have to go to Hyperspace Lumiose to do it, meaning only Pokémon trainers who have the Mega Dimension DLC will be able to get the new Mega Stone.
Like with the Mewtwo that was given away, you’ll get Mega Garchomp Z’s Mega Stone, Garchompite Z, by first claiming a Mystery Gift and later winning a battle. The “Special distortion detected!” Gift will create a special hyperspace distortion portal. On the other side? A Mega Garchomp Z that you’ll have to defeat to then get the new Mega Stone. Give Garchompite Z to a Garchomp in your party or boxes to hold, and it will now be able to Mega Evolve into Garchomp’s new form during battle.
According to the fine print for the Mystery Gift, you won’t have to have purchased to Mega Dimension DLC to claim the gift. However, you will have to own the Mega Dimension DLC to actually be able to travel to Hyperspace Lumiose and therefore battle the Mega Garchomp Z within.
Mega Dimension was released in December for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. I found it a bit too tedious, writing in my review, “Too much of the DLC’s experience is padded out by grinding for the sake of grinding; there’s not a ton of fun to be found in capturing five Litwick’s with ‘OK stats’ for minuscule survey points when I have an alpha Chandelure on my team.”
If you haven’t yet received a Mystery Gift and aren’t sure how to, our guide has you covered. They become available to claim fairly early in the game. Previous Mystery Gifts include an Alpha Charizard and the mythical Pokémon Diancie.
