China’s Saint Angelo Launches Bespoke Line, Signs Scabal Partnership in London

LONDON — Saint Angelo, the Chinese menswear brand part of the local apparel group Baoxiniao Holding Co. Ltd., on Wednesday unveiled its high-end bespoke line Maestro Atelier in London. Simultaneously, the brand announced a strategic partnership with Belgian luxury textile manufacturer and tailor Scabal.

Commencing the occasion in Scabal’s flagship on Savile Row, Saint Angelo signaled its accelerating transformation from a domestic leader to a powerful player in the global bespoke market.

Zhang Xiuyuan, chairman of Saint Angelo, said the brand has focused on tailoring craftsmanship for over 40 years, providing Chinese gentlemen with formalwear that “blends Eastern aesthetics with world-class craftsmanship.”

“We believe the true gentlemanly spirit is a combination of cultural confidence and a global outlook. Our core philosophy, ‘Eastern Sentiment, Western Rhyme,’ is reflected not only in our designs but also in our understanding of modern masculine lifestyles,” added Zhang.

Backing the new offering with credibility, the brand appointed David Ward, former head cutter of Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons, who has served top celebrities and the royal family in his decades-spanning career; Gianluigi Di Nino, who has worked at places like Zegna and Brioni in the past two decades, and Saint Angelo’s own Wu Zhixin, as maestros of craftsmanship, design, and pattern-making, respectively.

Together, they oversee the bespoke service for a collection that’s developed specifically for the Asian physique. The brand said it has collected over 10 million patterns based on the Asian body over the past 40 years, and Ward added that he is excited about integrating Savile Row’s bespoke techniques into this collaboration, elevating the Chinese suiting industry to new heights.

The partnership with Scabal, meanwhile, aims to further strengthen Saint Angelo’s expertise in the field of textiles.

Neil Hart, global sales director at Scabal, said the majority of Scabal’s fabrics are produced in its own mill in Yorkshire, England — the birthplace of the modern textile industry nearly 500 years ago.

Scabal offers over 5,000 fabric options for all occasions and is renowned for its super luxury cloths, such as top-tier fabrics embedded with diamond fragments or 24-karat gold threads.

One of the suits displayed at the event, which was curated by the London-based fashion consultant Sindy Liu, was crafted from Scabal’s gold-thread fabric, with lapels adorned with exquisite Chinese Song brocade.

The Shenzhen-listed Baoxiniao Holding owns brands including Saint Angelo, Hazzys, Bono, Camicissima, and Henry Grant, with over 1,600 stores. In 2024, the company also acquired the intellectual property rights for the Woolrich brand in all territories outside of Europe.
