If so, there are a lot of North American women today sporting skid marks. I suspect that most are not deranged harpies. They are, like team USA captain Hilary Knight, human beings with a reasonable expectation of respect. “I thought it was sort of a distasteful joke … unfortunately that is overshadowing a lot of the success of the women at the Olympics,” Knight told media this week about the notorious phone call, adding generously that the “guys were in a tough spot.” “I think this is a really good learning point,” she said. “To really focus on how we talk about women, not only in sport, but in industry.” Sounds utterly sane to me.
