Jeff Hafley was ‘blown away’ by new Dolphins assistant coach

When the Miami Dolphins hired the defensive-minded Jeff Hafley to replace Mike McDaniel as their head coach, that his offensive coaches would have a lot more responsibilities that the last group did under McDaniel’s leadership.

With that knowledge, Hafley hired Bobby Slowik to be the team’s offensive coordinator. Slowik previously had offensive coordinator experience himself with the Houston Texans, but Hafley also hired Kevin Patullo to be the team’s passing game coordinator under Slowik.

Patullo spent the last five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and was their offensive coordinator in 2025.

Speaking with the media at the NFL combine on Tuesday, Hafley gushed about how impressed he was with Patullo before bringing him aboard.

“When I interviewed him, I was blown away, the knowledge that he has, the football experience that he has, what he did for that entire organization – don’t forget he won a Super Bowl,” Hafley said. “Behind the scenes, what he did with that offense and with that whole team and listening to him talk and his football knowledge and not just about offense, but about game management, about situational football, I got off the Zoom and I said to Bobby, I said, ‘We’ve got to try to hire this guy.’ And he had other opportunities and other options. I think he’s going to be a huge asset to what we do, and I think often it’s unfair to judge anybody off of one single year.”

Patullo may have caught the ire of Eagles fans for the team’s disappointing offensive effort last year, but that hasn’t dissuaded Hafley from putting his faith him to help coach the offense in 2026.
