Fuelling Longevity: What you eat every day affects your heart health

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s latest report highlights how balanced eating supports both heart and brain health. Nutritious food choices can improve blood cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and help manage blood sugar. At the same time, the report points to common challenges. Nearly eight in 10 Canadian adults eat fewer than the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day. On average, Canadians consume only about half the fibre they need, while sodium intake remains above recommended levels. Ultra-processed foods now provide almost half of the calories Canadians eat, and only one-third of adults meet WHO recommendations for limiting added and free sugars.
