Russia targets Ukraine with 345 drones and missiles, striking energy sites and residential buildings, Zelenskyy says

LONDON — Russia launched almost 300 drones and 50 missiles at Ukraine overnight, killing one person and injuring at least eight others, including a child, according to Kyiv.

“The main target of the attack was the energy sector,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media. “Ordinary residential buildings were also damaged, and there is damage to the railway. Moscow continues to invest in strikes more than in diplomacy.”

Firefighters put out a fire after a drone hit a residential building during a Russian air attack in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026.

The strikes were targeted in part at Kyiv and the surrounding region, including the Boryspil district, where a church was damaged, Zelenskyy said. The Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava and Sumy regions were also targeted, the president said. Ukraine’s air force said it successfully stopped 274 of the 297 drones and 43 of the 50 missiles that Moscow launched.

The overnight attack brought the total Russian launches in the last week to more than 1,300 attack drones, over 1,400 guided aerial bombs and 96 missiles of various types, including dozens of ballistic ones, Zelenskyy said.

“Russia will not stop. This terror will not stop itself,” Yulia Svyrydenko, the Ukrainian prime minister, said on social media. “We encourage our partners to translate resolve into action and take the necessary steps to end the energy revenues that continue to finance Russia’s aggression.”

The Russian defense ministry also reported destruction of 86 drone attacks over Russian regions overnight. Two people, including a 3-year-old child, were injured in a drone attack on a car in the Belgorod region, Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

The overnight attacks came as U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said in an interview with FOX News Channel’s “My View with Lara Trump” on Saturday that Ukraine and Russia could hold a new round of peace talks within the next three weeks.

Witkoff also suggested that the next stage could involve organizing a summit with the participation of the presidents of Russia, Ukraine and, possibly, the United States.
