When three Manitoba MPs became Canada’s first Olympic curling champs


Three backbenchers in Bennett’s government — the Members of Parliament for Dauphin, Portage la Prairie and Souris, Manitoba — soon became Canada’s first Olympic curling champions, an outlandish but true feat. Moonlighting as dominant athletes, they teamed with an Ontario mayor to trounce American foes in 16-end games at Lake Placid, N.Y., in the winter of 1932.
