Shia LaBeouf arrested in New Orleans after brawl during Mardi Gras

Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans after allegedly hitting two people outside of a Royal Street business amid Mardi Gras celebrations, according to police.

The 39-year-old was kicked out of the business early Tuesday morning after causing a disturbance at the business, the New Orleans Police Department said.

“Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times,” police said in a news release. “The victims reported that LaBeouf left, but then came back, acting even more aggressive.”

Multiple people attempted to hold him down and released him so he could leave, but LaBeouf allegedly hit the same victim with a closed fist to the upper body, police said.

“LaBeouf then reportedly assaulted another person — punching him in the nose,” police said. “LaBeouf was again held down until police arrived.”

The 39-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment “of unknown injuries,” and was arrested upon release. He was charged with two counts of simple battery, according to police and online records.

It is not clear what circumstances led to the incident.

Representatives for LaBeouf did not immediately respond to NBC News requests for comment.

This isn’t the actor’s first instance of legal problems.

His ex-partner, British singer FKA Twigs, filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf in 2020 accusing him of “relentless abuse,” including choking her and knowingly giving her a sexually transmitted disease. The case was settled out of court last year after FKA Twigs dropped the lawsuit with prejudice.

At the time of the suit, LaBeouf said he had no excuses for his “alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations.”

“I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years,” he said at the time. “I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt.”

In 2017, he made racist remarks at Georgia police officers who arrested him on suspicion of public drunkenness, the outlet reported. He pled guilty to obstruction and received a year’s probation.

The public drunkenness allegation was dropped and LaBeouf eventually apologized, citing his addiction as a struggle.

In 2014, LaBeouf was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and harassment after he disrupted a Broadway play, for which he pled guilty, The Associated Press reported.
