Guardian nominated for more than 20 honours at 2026 Press Awards | The Guardian


The Guardian has been nominated for more than 20 honours at this year’s Press Awards, including for website of the year, daily newspaper of the year and newspaper of the year (daily and Sunday).

Twenty-seven entries from the Guardian have been shortlisted across 21 different categories by the judges of the UK’s prestigious journalism awards.

Three Guardian journalists are nominated for broadsheet interviewer of the year: Charlotte Edwardes, Donald McRae and Simon Hattenstone, who is also shortlisted for broadsheet feature writer of the year.

Malak A Tantesh, the Guardian’s former Gaza correspondent, is nominated for young journalist of the year.

Missing in the Amazon is nominated for news podcast of the year. Hosted by Tom Phillips, the six-part investigative series uncovers the disappearance and murder of the Guardian journalist Dom Phillips and the Brazilian Indigenous defender Bruno Pereira as it explores the dangers of the Amazon and fight against organised crime.

The Guardian’s Legacies of Enslavement programme is recognised on the shortlist for the excellence in diversity award.

Diane Taylor is shortlisted for scoop of the year for her exclusive on the return of an Iranian man to the UK on a small boat after being sent back to France under the “one in, one out” scheme.

The Guardian’s North of England editor, Josh Halliday, is shortlisted for news reporter of the year.

The political editor, Pippa Crerar, is nominated for political journalist of the year. Liz Cookman, who reported from Ukraine, is shortlisted for foreign reporter of the year for her work for the Guardian. Rob Davies makes the business and finance journalist shortlist.

Alexis Petridis, the chief rock and pop critic, and the restaurant reviewer Grace Dent are both nominated for critic of the year.

Two Guardian entries are shortlisted for broadsheet front page of the year: “Queens of Europe” by Clare Margetson on the England Lionesses’s Euro 2025 victory, and “American Dread”, on Donald Trump’s re-election, by David Teather.

The Guardian’s Saturday magazine is up for supplement of the year and the Guardian is also shortlisted for news website of the year. The Guardian app redesign is nominated for best audience engagement initiative.

Sam Wollaston is shortlisted for health journalist of the year. The science and technology journalist of the year shortlist includes the Guardian entry by Harry Davies and Yuval Abraham. Phoebe Weston, a biodiversity writer for the Guardian, is shortlisted for environment journalist of the year.

Pamela Duncan, the Guardian’s former data projects editor, is nominated for data journalist of the year.

Tom Jenkins is on the shortlist for sports photographer of the year, while Ben Jennings is nominated for cartoonist of the year.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony in London on 21 May.
