Carney deserves a medal for dealing with Trump, plus Tuesday Olympic catchup, and our tragedy at Tumbler Ridge

I think our Prime Minister Mark Carney deserves his own medal – gold, of course – for having to deal so often with Trump and his fantasies.

Prime Minister Carney on Trump’s bridge threat: “I explained that Canada of course paid for the construction of the bridge, that the ownership is shared between the state of Michigan and the government of Canada … This is a great example of cooperation between our countries.”

I so wonder what Carney said to Trump on that Gordie Howe Bridge call.

“No, Mr. President. Bridges go over water. Yes I’ll bring you a new choo choo next time I come.”

This regime is so FUBAR corrupt. Look who’s involved — LUTNICK. This fracas over the Canada-U.S. bridge was planned. Yet another Trump eruption / distraction from #Epstein since it is blowing up in their faces.

Sorry, 🇨🇦, our country is jacked the F up.

I’m so enthralled with the whole Trump-Carney-Windsor-Detroit Gordie Howe bridge scandal. A billionaire who owns the only other bridge gets pissy and suddenly the fucking President is ranting on Truth Social about how Canada is evil. It’s so funny. And so, so dumb. And corrupt. Can’t forget corrupt.

And here’s some breaking news:

Tuesday Olympic Catch-up
Silver in the Short Track Mixed Relay!

Short-track speedskating. It’s unpredictable. It’s nuts. And it yielded Canada’s first silver of the Milan Olympics #Opinion

I must admit that watching the short track relay races always reminds me of 43-man Squamish

And the American short track team crashed in their relay race. I thought these were good posts:

Sadly, our Canadian women’s hockey team didn’t win over the Americans, and it was a brutal 5-0 loss.

In The Globe and Mail, Cathal Kelly has already given up:

… If Canada gets hammered two times in a row, it’s going to be a national tragedy. If the men lose too, a national catastrophe.
In the past, the Canadian women’s team has avoided feeling that kind of pressure. On the rare recent occasion, singular, when they have lost here, the rallying cry began almost immediately. They had to get them next time, and they did.
If Canada loses here, it will no longer feel like next time is a given. That’s how bad this looked.
So if Canada’s most dominant team wants to have any shot at gold in Milan, it’s time to start treating this chance as if it’s its last.

Next, this isn’t a story about a winning run, but I’m including it in this post because Saskatoon knows this family, and my kids skied on the Blackstrap hill too:

And a dog also hits the ski hill:

Hmmm….

And finally, today’s terrible news:

Tragedy at Tumbler Ridge

A statement from Prime Minister Mark Carney on the tragedy occurred today in northern B.C. community of Tumbler Ridge.

I found some comfort tonight when I checked the nightly Threads “watch” between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Minnesota and so many other places.

And I’m already seeing shit on X about the shooter being trans. Sigh.
