After the blinding success of Split Fiction, Josef Fares confirms Hazelight’s next game is officially in development

Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios, has revealed that he and his team are at work at yet another video game. This should come as little surprise, given the success of Hazelight’s last game: Split Fiction.

The reveal, which comes from Fares himself, comes in the form of a photo posted on his personal Twitter account. This photo shows Fares in a mocap studio, his arm blocking three actors in ball-covered mocap suits to keep their identities mysterious… This image comes with a sentence from Fares: “Next game in the making”.

So what do we know about this next game? Well, precious little. We know Hazelight started working on it in early 2025, and that Fares was “super, super excited” about it. The only people who do know more about it, aside from Hazelight developers themselves, are those who first completed Split Fiction’s incredibly hard secret level.

Hazelight’s last game Split Fiction proved exceptionally successful. The game sold 2m copies in just a week after its launch, the first million of which being sold in the first 48 hours. Not too shabby. This proved so good a launch that EA gave the game its flowers during a quarterly financial report, stating the game was a key part of a strong Q4 in 2025 alongside EA Sports FC 25.

If you’ve not played Split Fiction yourself, maybe Eurogamer’s Split Fiction review is worth a read! In it, Katherine Castle summarised the game as: “Fantastic from start to finish, Split Fiction is one of the most inventive and joyful co-op games to date, and a testament to the power of human imagination.”
