I’m not clear on ALL of the ins and outs here, but as a trans person who is stuck in BC until I get bottom surgery because GRS refuses to do the surgery I want (it is not particularly complicated, GRS just kinda sucks a lot of the time when it comes to allowing newer procedures), the loss of GRS referrals seems like very not a big deal to me? Afaik every other province funnels to GRS, so its probably mainly an effort to reduce the load on that clinic. GRS has also been notoriously strict about who they approve for surgeries so again although not ideal to close off a surgery option, it ultimately seems like. Kinda okay? Am I missing something?

Good for you, I guess. If there options aren’t suitable you don’t have to go there, but for a lot of us its the best option and now its being taken away.

But if I go to BC, I’m probably going to have to wait 2-5 years to get bottom surgery, vs maybe 1 year max if I go to GRS Montreal. I’m almost in my 40’s and don’t want to wait that long.
You’re also required to get a hotel while in Vancouver for your stay (for 2 weeks) in addition to the 1 week in Hospital, which is a huge financial cost if you’re low income like me.

Also not expanding/increasing funding to VGH’s Bottom surgery program is going to make surgical waits which are already very long, balloon into something unsustainable.

This decision is so fucking stupid and as a Trans Person trying to get bottom surgery, I’m pissed off.
