I’m curious about how this would create an undue burden on people seeking surgery?

Trans care BC says that the reason the Montreal pathway is being closed for vaginoplasty and vulvoplasty is because people can get those surgeries in Vancouver. https://www.transcarebc.ca/about/news-events/grs-montreal-pathway-closure

The Montreal pathway for metoidioplasty and phalloplasty was previously closed because those surgeries are also available in Vancouver. https://www.transcarebc.ca/sites/default/files/2026-01/GRS_Pathway_Closure_Patient_Guide.pdf

I was told the surgeons doing bottom surgery in Canada were all trained in the same surgical styles, so if people want something different they have to go out of country (I don’t know if this is actually true). If this is true, I don’t really see how closing the Montreal pathway is going to effect people? Is the wait list shorter for getting surgery in Montreal?

Here is the link to the Vancouver gender surgery clinic for those interested https://www.vch.ca/en/service/gender-surgery-program-bc

Because current wait times in BC for bottom surgery (referrals to get into the system, and then getting a surgical date) are currently around 2-3 years minimum. I’ve talked to a lot of local people in Victoria on a Trans server who have been waiting years and still haven’t gotten a surgical date in BC.

Them cutting off an option and lumping everyone into BC, without expanding the program are going to make these wait times even longer.

Its 8-12 months usually for GRS Montreal by the way.
