Hii
So, they’re trying to rush Bill C-12 through the Senate —
Carney’s government is trying to pass a Senate motion TODAY that’s clearly designed to tamp-down dissent, and fast-track the passing of the bill into law. This motion would restrict the time-frame of the voting process, set a hard deadline for review by the study committee (without which they’ll just pass it without ammendments) and somewhat muzzles the commitee that will be reviewing the immigration sections of the bill (who will not have final say on ammendments).

To remind everyone, the C-12 Bill is a fucked up immigration bill that would allow for the immigration minister to mass-cancel permits, (including submitted permanent residency applications) without warning and with no recourse, it would institute a one-year deadline after which refugees will no longer be able to get refugee status (which applies retroactively to everyone since 2020!), would nix the US-Canada border exception (wherein refugees from the US could appeal for status within 2 weeks of arrival) at a time where ICE is ravaging the US, and finally, it would remove privacy protections and allow interdepartmental access to migrants’ files and personal info (which will make things like legal recourse for labor rights violations much much riskier).
So, this bill is absolute dogshit, and please write to Senate about it. Thaaaanks!
