That line about 2027 matters. Curtis Jones has two seasons left on his deal, a timeline that sharpens every conversation. A loan without an extension would have brought him back with just one year remaining, a scenario that rarely strengthens a selling position.

From Liverpool’s perspective, extending first would have protected value. From Jones’ side, committing to a short term renewal without clarity on his role or salary was less appealing. The stand off was predictable, if uncomfortable.

Jones signed his last contract in 2022, when he was still fighting for minutes. Since then he has grown into a reliable contributor, particularly during the title run, and his performances this season have carried added weight in a demanding campaign. Wanting improved terms feels reasonable, even inevitable.
