Macklem Warns of Rate Cut Risk Amid Structural Economic Changes


US tariff policy, including sectoral levies on steel, aluminum, autos and lumber, has hit Canada’s economy hard. But the supply shock is also a structural change, Macklem argues, and while monetary policy can help with the adjustment, the tool can’t restore lost efficiency from trade friction.
