What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.
As flagged in iPolitics AM, JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS members are set to wrap up clause-by-clause review of the government’s long-promised bid to overhaul the bail and sentencing system this afternoon — but before they do, they’ll hear from a final panel of witnesses, including Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas and Toronto Police Association president Clayton Campbell, as well as representatives of the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District, International Downtown Association Canada and Retail Council of Canada. (3:30 p.m.)
Over at CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION, MPs circle back to their ongoing examination of the immigration system with expert testimony from University of Toronto human rights law professor Audrey Macklin and Carleton University professor Christopher Worswick, as well as the Refugee Centre, Immigrant Services Society of British Columbia and Immigrants Working Centre. (4:30 p.m.)
Also this afternoon:
- Representatives of the B.C. Shrimp Trawlers’ Association, Cape Breton Fish Harvesters Assocaition and the Little Campbell Hatchery Society, as well as Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association director Keith Sullivan and University of British Columbia’s Fraser MacDonald, offer their perspectives on “marine and coastal protections” during an afternoon session at FISHERIES AND OCEANS. (4 p.m.)
- VETERANS AFFAIRS members continue to explore “barriers to entrepreneurship among veterans” with Green Army Coffee founder Jody Mitic, Dog House Brewing Company Ltd. co-owner Richard McNish and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. (4:30 p.m.)
- NATIONAL DEFENCE members clock in another round of clause-by-clause review of proposed changes to the military justice system. (4:30 p.m.)
On the Senate side: Justice Minister Sean Fraser heads before LEGAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS members to field questions about measures related to judicial salaries and the administration of tribunals included in the latest budget bill. (4:15 p.m.)
