The World Cup may still be four months away, but Bape and Adidas are gearing up early for the biggest edition of the tournament yet.
The Bape x Adidas “Football Collective Collection” features three sneaker silhouettes and two riffs on iconic soccer jerseys. Most soccer-forward of the footwear assortment is their Samba, which swaps out the Three Stripes motif for Bape’s star logo. That mark and the mustache appear in brand-staple forest green, while the rest of the upper is rendered in cream, including a T-toe that appears to be constructed with rubber rather than leather. “A Bathing Ape” text appears with gold debossing beneath the star, while the shoe is rounded out in a classic gum cupsole.
Bape’s signature Cloud Camo covers the Adistar Hrmy, a new lifestyle-oriented revamp of the Harmony running shoe from 2000 that debuted last year. Its stacked midsole includes another core Bape design with shark teeth printed on the lower layer.
Closing out the footwear slate is a Campus 00s with black crocodile-textured leather and another swap-in for Bape’s star logo.
Headlining the apparel assortment is an official remix of Japan’s home shirt from 1994, which trades Japan’s crest for a Bape badge and features the no. 93 for the year the streetwear brand was founded. A long-sleeve shirt also brings back the famous denim design from the U.S.’ 1994 World Cup, subtly reconfiguring the star graphics as Bape’s own and replacing the “USA” mark with another one for Bape.
Marketing only calls out the source material for the Japan jersey because Adidas is no longer officially tied to the American National Team, but those who know their kit history won’t miss the connection.
The Bape x Adidas “Football Collective Collection” will release Saturday through the Confirmed app, Bape’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing for the Samaba and Campus 00s is set at $160, while the Adistar Hrmy will go for $200.
