Kiefer Sutherland case on hold amid further investigation into alleged altercation with ride-share driver, DA says

The investigation into actor Kiefer Sutherland following his arrest last month on suspicion of felony criminal threats is ongoing, and charges have yet to be filed, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Monday.

The “24” star was scheduled to appear in court in Los Angeles on Monday, but that court appearance was put on hold as the case was sent back to police for more investigating, the DA’s office told ABC News.

Sutherland was arrested on Jan. 12 after police say they received a radio call for an alleged assault involving a ride-share driver near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles.

Sutherland was taken into custody and later posted $50,000 bond, according to jail records.

The actor has not commented publicly on the incident.

Law enforcement sources told ABC News that the driver reported to them that Sutherland allegedly punched the ride-share driver multiple times and tried to choke him.

As previously reported, there were no injuries that required medical treatment in the incident, according to police, and Sutherland was not arrested on suspicion of assault.

Sutherland, known for his role as President Thomas Kirkman on ABC’s “Designated Survivor” and for his Emmy-winning role as Jack Bauer in the action series “24,” is the son of the late actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas.
