Right, so, spoiler alert: that NCR power armour which first appeared in the trailers for season two of Amazon’s Fallout Show has finally made its grand entrance in the latest episode to drop. On cue, Bethesda have put out a Fallout 76 DLC you can buy if you want to wear the armour for yourself in a Fallout game. Said DLC costs £26.99 / $30. In light of that, I’m here to quickly point out/remind folks that there’s a free Fallout 4 mod for the armour you can give a go if you fancy.

Said mod is the Ranger Power Armor by PrincessAries that we covered back when it came out in November last year, before the first episode of the show’s second season had even aired. If that seems puzzling, it’s because PrincessAries and co took their visual cues from shots of the armour from Fallout Show trailers and leaks.

As such, it might not be as inch-accurate a recreation compared to the NCR power armour Bethesda have created to stuff into Fallout 76’s new Mojave Bundle DLC, but it looks damn good regardless and comes with a bunch of customisation options to boot.

Then again, if you opt to just give the mod a go rather than shelling out the DLC’s £26.99 / $30 price tag – which doesn’t look to payable via a stash of in-game Atom currency instead – you won’t get the assortment of other stuff it includes. Let’s see, there’s a gold version of Legate Lanius’ getup from Fallout: New Vegas, a super sledge dubbed Ad Victoriam, and New Vegas sign/NCR flag props. Cough, cough, and cough.

Turning off snark mode, the bundle is a set of optional cosmetics, so one could very much argue it’s relatively small fry on the off-putting monetisation scale.

It’s also offered me a second chance to highlight PrincessAries and co’s impressive work, so irradiated swings and roundabouts, I suppose. Apologies for the slight bit of repetition to those of you who read that first article. Plus, those keen to don the armour in 76 specifically can wait for a sale to roll around to grab the bundle for a less lofty bill.
