Unionised French Ubisoft workers put out call for an international strike held by all current employees

Last week, Ubisoft announced a major restructure that saw multiple games cancelled, including the Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time Remake, and more concerningly prospectively put layoffs on the horizon. Now, following an agreement made by a group of organised Ubisoft workers across multiple French unions, a call for an international strike across all studios at the company has been put out.

The five unions in question consist of STJV, CGT, Printemps Ecologique, Solidaires Informatique, and CFE-CGC, who through the firstmost put out a statement regarding Ubisoft’s recent actions. Namely, the five unions are calling for a “massive international strike by all Ubisoft employees” across the 10th, 11th, and 12th of February next month.

🇬🇧✊🌀 Ubisoft : enough is enough! Faced with the arbitrary decision of the CEO who doesn’t even dare talking to employees anymore, unions are calling for a strike on February 10th, 11th and 12th.

This call to action comes in response not just to the recent structuring and prospective layoffs, but because of the return to mandatory in-office work. “These decisions are forcing us to act in order to protect those who keep this company alive,” reads the statement. It goes on to note, “We are promised autonomy for Creative Houses, but what about the autonomy for employees? Five days of mandatory in-office work: we are treated like children who need to be supervised, while our management gets away with lies and breaking the law.”

It’s also worth noting that according to the statement, Ubisoft employees learned about the major restructure not through a private announcement, but at the same time as the public announcement, noting that “none of these changes had been discussed during the mandatory consultations with the works councils a few days earlier.”

A half-day strike was held last week, but this was only through Solidaires Informatique in France. According to Ubisoft’s about section on their website, the studio currently has roughly 17,000 employees, meaning if international workers take part in the strike, it could feature thousands of staff members across the world. Solidarity to all those involved.
