While the Los Angeles Rams enjoyed a successful season that ended one win shy of the Super Bowl, they also quietly turned their kicking situation into a feel-good story.

Harrison Mevis, affectionately known as “The Thiccer Kicker,” finished a standout year in Los Angeles, one that was fueled as much by patience and preparation as performance.

Mevis was cut by the Jets before the regular season but continued to prepare each week as if he would be lining up kicks on an NFL field every Sunday. That approach paid off. He converted 18 of 19 field-goal attempts, including the playoffs, and was perfect on all 48 extra points.

The opportunity — and the results — meant “everything” to him.“I think you, you kind of saw the results there,” Mevis said, according to therams.com. “It works. It’s a lot like golf and you kinda keep it simple and you’ll make kicks. Don’t overcomplicate it.”

Mevis credited punter and holder Ethan Evans, long snapper Jake McQuaide, and the protection unit for helping make his season possible. Before landing with the Rams, Mevis spent time with the Jets, Panthers, and the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.

Fresh off the conclusion of the season, Mevis said he hasn’t yet given much thought to his long-term future with the Rams or in the league. What he does know is that he’ll be “ready to make the next kick, whenever that comes,” just as he was when Los Angeles called.
