Forza Horizon 6 release date, Japan car culture features revealed

Playground Games’ new entry in the Forza Horizon series is heading to Japan, with developers promising that Forza Horizon 6 will be the franchise’s “biggest, most exciting game yet” and feature an authentic representation of Japan’s unique car culture. During a segment in Thursday’s Xbox Developer Direct, developers from Playground highlighted what’s new in Forza Horizon 6 and what sets it apart. That includes the promise of more than 550 cars at launch, the biggest roster yet in Forza.

Forza Horizon 6 will task players with working their way up from a tourist to a competitor in the Horizon Festival, which takes place in Legend Island, a region full of tracks and new areas to explore. Devs say that all of Japan outside of the Horizon Festival will also be yours to explore: from bamboo forests to Tokyo’s city streets to the snowy mountain passes of northern Japan.

The biomes and seasons of Japan will be strongly represented in Forza Horizon 6, as will landmarks like Shibuya Crossing, Ginko Avenue, and Tokyo Tower. Players will also be able to customize a home known as The Estate, a large piece of land that players can acquire and build upon freely. Options include building a homey mountain hideaway and a personalized track for friends, all of which can be customized in multiplayer with friends.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Forza without cool cars. Forza Horizon 6 will highlight the 2025 GR GT Prototype — the game’s cover car — and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser in its reflection of Japanese car culture.

Player progression up to and through the Horizon Festival (and beyond) will be reflected in a new feature called the Collection Journal, which is inspired by Japan’s stamp-collecting history, letting players build a digital collection of mementos discovered throughout their tour of Japan.

Forza Horizon 6 will be released on May 19 for Windows PC and Xbox Series X, and is included with Game Pass Ultimate. The game will come to PlayStation 5 later in 2026. Forza Horizon 6 is now available to pre-order, and early access for Premium Edition players starts May 15.
