Let’s start with storage, since that’s the biggest challenge. Because of the placement of the windows, our options are limited as to where we can build some closets. One option would be to condemn the closet from the room that is behind this one and give that space to this room, turning your single closet into a double. If you can’t afford to lose the closet in the other room, I suggest you invest in a wardrobe system like Ikea’s PAX or a floor-mounted custom system with doors from a company like Komandor, and run it all along the wall where the bed currently sits, from the window wall to the closet wall. Drywall closets usually need 28 to 29 inches (you need 24 inches inside, plus framing and drywall), but with a closet system, you only end up needing about 24 inches of floor space.
