Kristen Stewart Gets in Edgy in Chanel at ‘Chronology of Water’ Premiere

Kristen Stewart brought refined edginess to the premiere of her directorial debut “The Chronology of Water” in Los Angeles on Thursday night, wearing a Chanel look styled by Tara Swennen.

Clad in mostly black, Stewart wore a fitted, sleeveless tank top in black with a white outline at the neckline of the piece and down the front placket, revealing a zipper with the iconic Chanel logo. The top was effortlessly coordinated with a pair of oversize black low-rise trousers.

At the back of Stewart’s top, a plunging backline was revealed, giving the piece an added element of sensuality. When it came to accessories, Stewart wore a layered chainlink necklace with a padlock charm in metallic silver.

When it came to glam, Stewart tapped makeup artist Jillian Dempsey for her clean look with added bold elements from her eyebrows to her lined eye and neutral lip. The “Spencer” Oscar-nominated actress’ hair was given the mullet treatment with a modern take courtesy of hairstylists Adir Abergel and Luly James Jallad.

While Stewart’s worn designs by Calvin Klein, The New Arrivals and Fleur du Mal throughout her “Chronology of Water” press tour, Chanel holds a very special tie to the actress and filmmaker. Stewart was named an ambassador to the French luxury fashion house in 2013 and has since starred in campaigns for the label, including a photo spread for the spring 2020 collection.

For several of the red carpets she’s attended to promote “The Chronology of Water,” Stewart’s turned to designs from Chanel, including selections from the fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection, worn at the 51st Deauville American Film Festival in September, and a black and white minidress worn to the London Film Festival in October.

With “The Chronology of Water,” Stewart marks her first stint behind the camera. “There’s just unearthed privacy that when shared is pure liberation,” Stewart said of the film at Chanel’s Academy women’s luncheon in November.

“To be able to get it up on its feet and let it scream and dance and fall over but then get back up….If we can aspire to dream away from the things that hold us down, that’s what I got from the book and I thought the movie could just take that further.”

Stewart’s adaptation of “The Chronology of Water,” based on the memoir of the same name by Lidia Yuknavitch, follows the former competitive swimmer as she confronts her trauma and builds a new life. The film is now in theaters.
