Canada appoints new Permanent Representative to International Civil Aviation Organization


August 25, 2025 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, today announced the appointment of Karine Asselin as Permanent Representative of Canada to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), effective as of August 25, 2025.

As proud ICAO host state and member of the ICAO Council, Canada is committed to continue taking a leadership role in the essential work of ICAO, ensuring safe, secure and sustainable air travel for Canadians and people around the world.

Ms. Asselin brings to ICAO a wealth of experience as a senior Canadian diplomat, including serving most recently as Canada’s Ambassador to Greece and High Commissioner to Cyprus.
