Liberal bill would restore minimum mandatory sentences but give judges discretion to avoid ‘grossly disproportionate’ sentences


The Protecting Victims Act would also create a new criminal offence of coercive control, upgrade all femicides to first-degree murder charges, and make it illegal to distribute explicit deepfake images, among other changes.
