An Elder Scrolls TV series “can’t be ruled out”, Todd Howard teases, but remains tight-lipped on the status of the Wolfenstein adaptation

Bethesda’s Todd Howard may be gearing up for the Fallout season two debut on Amazon Prime, but don’t think we are going to miss a chance to ask him about the Wolfenstein TV series and a potential Elder Scrolls adaptation.

Our social producer Mat Jones recently sat down with the studio head, and asked him just how things were going with Wolfenstein’s adaptation. However, while Howard clearly knows more than he was letting on right now, he has admitted it’s “not [his] place” to speak about it, preferring to save that honour for MachineGames.

OK, fair enough. But, what about an Elder Scrolls TV show or film? Surely that would be a no brainer for Bethesda after the success of Fallout’s own series and the unwavering devotion many gamers have for Skyrim. Well, the answer wasn’t a no…

“I will say this, the Fallout journey was like a 10 year one,” Howard replied when Mat asked for the developer’s thoughts on an Elder Scrolls adaptation of some description. “After Fallout 3, people were asking to do a movie or show for Fallout, and we really took our time.”

That said, Howard “can’t rule in or rule out an Elder Scrolls thing in the future.” However, the Bethesda exec believes the Fallout franchise was “more uniquely suited” and had “more to say in its genre” at this moment in time.

“But, you never know. I think the impact of the show on Fallout as a franchise has been bigger than I expected, so it does make you think like ‘hey, is there a path?’. But, nothing today… [and] I’m willing to say ‘no’ for a decade.”

Elsewhere in the chat with Mat (poet and didn’t know it), Howard spoke more about the use of AI in video games and his personal game of the year.

The second season of Fallout will be heading to Prime later this month, on 17th December. Along with returning faces like Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, Macaulay Culkin and Kumail Nanjiani have also joined the show for season two.
