Spoonful of Comfort’s fall package includes two quarts of soup, six rolls and six cookies.
When you start feeling that dreaded tickle in your throat, you might reach for your vitamins or blend up your favorite feel-better-quick juice. But sometimes, no matter how fast you act, you can’t escape a cold or flu from fully setting in. When that happens, even getting out of bed can feel like a challenge, let alone cooking a nutritious meal to help you bounce back.
If you or someone you love could use a hearty, comforting meal delivered during these times, there are some companies that specialize in exactly that. Spoonful of Comfort is one of them. Here’s what I thought of the care package service after trying it out for myself.
How Spoonful of Comfort works
The quarts of soups were nicely packaged and had no spills during transit.
Spoonful of Comfort is a bit different from other meal delivery services. Rather than being used for weekly meal prep, the boxes are more often sent as gifts. You can sort Spoonful of Comfort care packages by occasion, soup flavor or package types on the website. Additionally, there are a handful of non-food packages to browse (detailed below).
For the soup packages, the brand’s specialty, you can choose between five soup options: chicken noodle soup, loaded baked potato soup, tomato basil soup, garden vegetable soup and chicken and wild rice soup. There are also four cookie flavors: chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, oatmeal raisin and peppermint hot cocoa.
The most popular option is the Get Well Soon Gift Package ($100), which includes:
- Two quarts of soup
- Six rolls
- Six classic cookies
- A keepsake ladle
- A note card with a personal message from you
Additional items that you can add to the packages include a chamomile tea and honey bundle ($10), a throw blanket ($60) and a lip balm and hand cream set ($25), among other options.
Other popular boxes include the Thinking of You Package ($100) and the Double Dinner Care Package ($185). Vegan and gluten-free options are also available, however, you can choose only one type of vegan soup, roll and cookie, while there are five gluten-free soup choices. While these are often popular options for people who are sick, there are numerous other occasions for which the care packages cater, such as birthdays, housewarmings, pet loss and more.
Non-food-related packages are also available, such as the Peace and Pampering Care Package ($150), which includes a blanket, candle, coloring book, coloring pencils, socks and hand cream.
No subscription is required to order from the company. After you choose the package you want, you check out and fill out what you want the included note card to say.
Spoonful of Comfort price
The packages range from $100 to $285, plus around $10 for shipping.
The Get Well Soon Gift Package ($100) and the Sympathy Soup Gift Baskets ($100) are the most popular options. The most expensive package, the The Cooking Comforts Soup Package ($280, or $285 for the vegan option), includes more than just food. In addition to two quarts of soup, six rolls and six cookies, it also has:
- A 3-qt. enameled cast iron heritage Dutch oven
- An apron
- A pot holder
- A kitchen towel
- A Spoonful Signature oven mitt
- A greeting card
- A keepsake ladle
And of course, the more you add to the packages, such as with the build-your-own option, the more expensive they get.
The Classic Fall Soup Package was packed neatly and delivered on time.
What we ate and how we liked it
I received the All About Fall Soup Care Package ($135), which included chicken and wild rice soup, garden vegetable soup, oatmeal raisin cookies and rolls. The package also included a keepsake ladle, tea, a decorative tea towel and decorative leaves.
I found each quart was enough for two people for dinner, and I loved the homemade rolls. The vegetable soup was slightly bland for my taste, but nothing that a bit of salt and pepper couldn’t fix. The chicken and wild rice soup was tasty, and I would have especially appreciated it if I were under the weather. The cookies were another bright spot in the package. They were soft and full of flavor.
The rolls were ready-to-eat, but you can also pop them in the oven for five minutes to heat them up before dinner.
My favorite part of the package may have been the reusable ladle and decorative tea towel, as they can be used multiple times. (I even used the fake leaves as holiday decor, too!) It was also packaged nicely, with the soups arriving slightly frozen, so there was no concern about spoilage.
Final verdict
While making soup and hand-delivering it is the cheaper option, sometimes that’s just not possible. If you’re located states away, Spoonful of Comfort is a great way to still let someone know you’re thinking of them, and I do think it’s worth the price as long as you’re not planning to use it as a regular meal delivery service. There are also only a handful of soup options, so it’s not something I’d order for myself often, but when you want to send someone else a pick-me-up, this is a great option.
