3 stabbed with machete in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal

Three people were stabbed on a New York City subway platform on Saturday, police said.

A male suspect stabbed a 65-year-old-man, a 70-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man on a subway platform at Grand Central Terminal, according to the New York Police Department.

A senior law enforcement official told NBC News that the suspect was wielding a machete.

At least one of the victims was taken to the hospital in critical condition, a police spokesperson said.

The NYPD said two officers were also taken to the hospital and were in stable condition.

The suspect was acting erratically and became involved in a verbal altercation, according to law enforcement sources. There was at least a 10-minute standoff before officers fatally shot the suspect, according to the sources.

Grand Central Terminal, one of the city’s busiest transit hubs, serves not only daily commuters, but also draws thousands of tourists each day.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in post on X that she was briefed on the incident.

“I’m grateful to our brave officers who acted quickly to stop the suspect,” the governor said. “We’re working closely with the NYPD as the investigation unfolds.”

A spokesperson for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani did not immediately return a request for comment.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
