Sean Kingston is in federal prison after he was unable to provide $100K bond

Rapper Sean Kingston, who along with his mother was found guilty of federal wire fraud last month, is unable to complete a $100,000 bond and is behind bars, according to court records.

The 35-year-old singer, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was unable to satisfy bond and was ordered during a hearing on April 10 to be remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals pending his sentencing.

He’s being held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website.

Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were indicted in July 2024, accused of using the rapper’s celebrity influence and social media accounts to convince sellers of luxury goods — from jewelry to beds and cars — to deliver items before payment, then made fraudulent and worthless wire transfers.

In total, their scheme, which lasted from April 2023 to March 2024, saw them defraud vendors out of over $1 million, prosecutors said. Some of the luxury items included a bullet-proof Escalade, watches and a 232-inch LED TV.

They were found guilty on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud in March by a federal jury in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

After the guilty verdict, Kingston was ordered to be confined to house arrest with electronic monitoring and ordered to post a surety bond of a home valued at $500,000 and $200,000 in cash. Turner, 61, was remanded into federal custody.

They are scheduled to be sentenced July 11. They face up to 20 years in prison for each count.

NBC News has reached out to his attorney for comment.
