The modern press tour is practically a marathon of actors changing looks every five seconds, usually in some kind of sartorial homage to their projects. So it was nothing short of delightful to see Michelle Williams embark on a short, yet disciplined promotion circuit for her new show, Dying For Sex, filled with good old-fashioned…well, fashion.
At last night’s premiere of Dying For Sex, Williams (styled by Kate Young) wore a pale lavender Proenza Schouler dress with a plunging V-neck, tiered waist, and twisted straps. But that was far from her only standout moment of the week. While out in New York City yesterday, Williams hopped aboard the boho train in a flouncy black tiered minidress with ecru lace details from Chemena Kamali’s Chloé, which she styled with thigh-high black leather boots and a gold statement necklace.
A longtime friend of Chanel, Williams also turned to the French house for her press tour. On one occasion, she paired a ladylike white tweed top with trendy blue barrel jeans and a funky black mule, while another day saw her in a pinstripe suit with the signature white camellia pinned to her lapel.
So while Michelle Williams may not have undergone a multi-month, multi-city press tour for her latest show, she reminds us that all it takes to get our attention is a strong sense of style. No gimmicks necessary.
