Former local Virginia meteorologist Joshua Fitzpatrick, 42, is facing charges of sexual extortion after he was arrested on a fugitive warrant in Ohio on Tuesday.

The Albemarle County Police Department began an investigation into Fitzpatrick in late February after an assault was reported, according to a press release on Wednesday.

“The victim reported that after a consensual sexual encounter, they were extorted and threatened with the release of a video taken unknowingly and without their consent,” the release said.

Warrants for Fitzpatrick’s arrest were obtained April 9 for felony sexual extortion and unlawful creation of image of another. Authorities tracked Fitzpatrick to Ohio, where he relocated after the investigation began, according to the release.

Fitzpatrick was scheduled for an extradition hearing Thursday morning, but was unavailable for medical reasons, according to county records. A lawyer for Fitzpatrick did not immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment.

Fitzpatrick left his position with WVIR-TV, an NBC affiliate, in early March, the station reported.

“The investigation has led detectives to believe that there may be additional victims,” the release stated.
