DeMarcus Lawrence agrees to free agent deal with Seahawks

After 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Lawrence has a new home.

The four-time Pro Bowl defensive end has agreed to a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks that includes $18 million guaranteed and a max value of $42 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

The Seahawks had a need on the edge after releasing Dre’Mont Jones. They’ve also had discussions with outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu about a reworked deal that would lower his $21 million cap charge.

In Seattle, Lawrence reunites with Aden Durde, who was the Cowboys’ defensive line coach before the Seahawks hired him last year to coordinate Mike Macdonald’s defense.

Lawrence played in just four games in 2024 because of a right midfoot sprain suffered against the New York Giants. He went on injured reserve with the hopes of returning later in the season, but with the Cowboys finishing 7-10, it didn’t make much sense for him to return. He finished the season with 14 tackles, 3 sacks and 8 quarterback pressures.

Lawrence, 32, has developed into one of the better two-way defensive ends in the game with his ability to play the run and affect the quarterback. He signed the richest deal in Cowboys history given to a defensive player in 2019 — five years, $105 million guaranteed — after posting back-to-back seasons of 14.5 and 10.5 sacks.

But he did not post more than 6.5 sacks in a season after signing the deal. Still, coaches raved about his ability to do more than just sack the quarterback. Taking away his injury-filled seasons of 2021 and 2024, he posted at least 36 pressures and six tackles for loss.

Lawrence has 61.5 sacks in 11 NFL seasons.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson and Todd Archer contributed to this report.
