Exclusive: The New York boutique hotel home to Scarpetta is now part of Hyatt

Choosing a hotel in New York City is never an easy task, but for World of Hyatt loyalists, it just got a little easier: The James NoMad, a boutique hotel in one of the city’s most stylish neighborhoods, is transitioning into the Hotel Seville NoMad under Hyatt’s Unbound Collection.

TPG was exclusively told that the property will undergo a refresh to help blend the 19th-century building’s beaux arts architecture with contemporary design, modern amenities and that overall sense of New York cool that makes visiting the city so great in the first place. This beautiful hotel sits on Madison Avenue, just blocks from Madison Square Park and the Empire State Building.

“Hotel Seville NoMad bridges New York’s storied past and its elevated present, offering a dynamic destination where timeless elegance meets modern luxury,” Tommasi Moccia, the hotel’s general manager, said. “Whether locals are stopping in for expertly crafted cocktails and sophisticated dishes or visitors from across the globe are seeking a refined stay, we look forward to offering our guests an unforgettable experience in the heart of New York City.”

Food has been a major reason why locals and guests from around the world visited this hotel before it joined World of Hyatt. Scarpetta — a buzzy Italian restaurant started in New York that has since branched out around the world — is housed at, and is staying at, the property.

Joining Scarpetta is Il Bar, the hotel’s new stone-lined lobby bar designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen that serves cocktails and small bites. For something more exclusive, the hotel’s speakeasy, The Seville, will offer drinks, jazz and the occasional DJ set.

As part of the upcoming refresh, the hotel will reimagine its 348 guest rooms and suites, and each will be “inspired by iconic spaces around the globe.” A blue and gray palette will set the tone, alongside vintage-style furniture and new art.

In addition to the new Il Bar, Hotel Seville NoMad’s lobby will also be revived with residential-like features. And you can trust that the team behind the hotel, GFI Hospitality, knows what it’s doing: Its other projects include New York City favorites like The Beekman, Ace Hotel New York and Thompson Central Park.

But Hyatt’s win appears to be Sonesta’s loss. Sonesta — the hotel company you probably didn’t know that you already know — recently acquired The James brand and has been touting the now-converted hotel as “the prototype for future properties” as part of the company’s push to license The James brand.

How to book: Hotel Seville NoMad is a World of Hyatt Category 6 hotel with award availability starting at 21,000 points per night.
