IHG is opening a new Vignette Collection hotel in Sicily this year

IHG Hotels & Resorts is embracing la dolce vita with a new property that overlooks the sea on the Italian island of Sicily.

With plans to open in the second half of 2025, the 43-room Costa Irminia Retreat & Spa, Vignette Collection will feature a pair of swimming pools and a private beach club complete with direct access to the sea, inviting guests to relax on the shores of the Mediterranean. The property will be located in Marina di Ragusa, which sits near the southern tip of the island, according to IHG.

When not lounging at the beach, visitors will be able to enjoy the hotel’s bar along with an all-day restaurant.

“Sicily, with its vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and exquisite cuisine, offers the ideal setting for our second Vignette Collection property in Italy,” Willemijn Geels, the vice president of development in Europe for IHG Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement. “Our growth strategy in the market centres on expanding our presence within the luxury and lifestyle segment, while ensuring exceptional stays and memorable experiences for our guests.”

Geels added that Costa Irminia Retreat & Spa “perfectly aligns with this vision.”

The seaside town’s location is also worth noting, as it’s just a short drive from some of Sicily’s most beautiful villages, including Modica, a UNESCO-designated Val di Noto baroque village, and Ragusa, a picturesque village sitting on a hilltop. This summer, travelers will be able to reach the island — known for its appearance in “The White Lotus” — through direct flights from the U.S. on both United Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

Geels said guests of the property will enjoy an “authentic travel experience as they are immersed in the hotel’s distinctive character, stunning surroundings, and local charm.”

Costa Irminia Retreat & Spa is one of two Vignette Collection properties IHG plans to open in Italy, joining Hotel Alexandra, which the company said is expected to open in 2026. That hotel will be located in Rome and feature amenities like morning yoga classes and a relaxing outdoor courtyard.

Beyond the Vignette Collection, IHG currently operates 30 hotels in Italy across several brands, including InterContinental, Six Senses and Hotel Indigo. IHG also said it has plans to open 12 more hotels in the European country.
