Man City waiting to make decision on Claudio Echeverri future – source

Manchester City are set to wait until the summer before making a decision on Claudio Echeverri’s future, a source has told ESPN.

The 19-year-old Argentina youth international arrived at the Etihad Stadium in February following his move from River Plate, which was initially agreed in January 2024.

Echeverri has been training with Pep Guardiola’s first-team, but is yet to be named in a matchday squad. A source has told ESPN that club bosses are set to make a decision on his future at the end of the season.

City have fielded a number of enquiries about the forward’s availability ahead of next season. He’s already been linked with loan moves to Girona — part of the City Football Group — and Lazio.

Meanwhile, James McAtee is set for talks with Guardiola before a decision is made about whether the midfielder takes part in the FIFA Club World Cup or the Under-21 European Championship.

The Euros, hosted by Slovakia, is scheduled to begin on June 11. England’s first game is against the Czechia on June 12.

City are set to fly to Florida on June 12 ahead of their first Club World Cup fixture against Moroccan side Wydad AC on June 18.

Sources close to City have told ESPN that their intention is to take the strongest possible squad to the tournament in the U.S. However, McAtee has struggled for minutes having been forced to accept a bit-part role this season.

He’s started just five games, all of which have come in the domestic cup competitions. He’s scored seven goals in 17 appearances for England’s Under-21s and was on target in the 5-3 defeat to France on Friday.
