Kirby and the World Beyond coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027

Sounds the alarms! A reveal trailer for a brand-new Kirby game has been revealed in today’s Nintendo Direct. Called Kirby and the World Beyond, the game is headed to the Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring, 2027.

The game has a very vibrant, colourful aesthetic as is the norm with the Kirby series. Kirby is seen running through luscious green pastures, leaping across logs and other rushing across bridges. You can suck up enemies, of course, providing Kirby new abilities that come in handy during combat and open world traversal. Check out the trailer below.

Kirby’s Sword Copy ability also be seen – a long-running with Kirby charging around with the Master Sword and using it to quickly ascend vertically. King Dedede is also present as a boss, who Kirby knocks through a Truman Show-style wall in the horizon. How mysterious!

On the topic of Zelda, that Link power up receives a massive power up in the second half of the trailer. In what appears to be a Tears of the Kingdom-specific modifier, Kirby can use his buffed-up Master Sword-looking upgrade to chop down trees and open up new pathways. Kirby also used it to break out into a very Hyrule-looking environment beyond the bounds of the vivid world they know. What is waiting for Kirby out there remains to be seen – the next world over does look very, very Zelda-inspired from here, though.

The game looks interesting! Who doesn’t love a Kirby game, especially one that looks to have a lot of love (and resources) invested into it. The ties to Zelda seem like an interesting quirk – it feels as though some of the most interesting parts of the game may still be hidden.

Kirby and the World Beyond comes to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, and will be just one part of a celebration Nintendo is planning for the lil’ pink mascot’s 35th anniversary.
