Sheehan Builds on Recent Successes With Winning Outing Over Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers won their fifth straight game on Monday, a 6-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds that was powered by pitcher Emmet Sheehan’s stellar outing.

Sheehan made his first start after coming back from a few weeks down in the minor leagues.

Sheehan has struggled for much of this season, but he excelled with the Oklahoma City Comets of Triple-A, earning PCL Pitcher of the Month as a result, as detailed by Aaron Coloma of Dodgers Nation and LA Sports Report.

Now back with the Dodgers, he’s improved his personal record to 5-8 with 5.2 innings of work during which he struck out 10 batters, matching his career high.

He gave up three hits and one run while walking one batter, though he did give up a solo home run to Elly De La Cruz in the first inning.

He left two runners on base when he exited in the sixth inning, but Alex Vesia closed out the inning without allowing any additional runs.

Who led the Dodgers offense?

Teoscar Hernandez was the Dodgers’ star at the plate, hitting 2-for-3 with a three-run home run.

Two more Dodgers runs came on a crucial error the fifth inning, when a throw to first on a Miguel Rojas infielder grounder got past Reds first baseman Sal Stewart.

That error allowed Hernandez and Alex Call to score.

Will Smith also scored Max Muncy on a sacrifice fly.

Superstar Shohei Ohtani, though, wasn’t part of the offensive success.

He was held hitless in three at bats, including two strikeouts. He did reach base once on a walk.
