From AD to Arike: Paige Bueckers gets warm welcome to Dallas as WNBA draft’s No. 1 pick

The Dallas Wings selected Paige Bueckers at No. 1 in the 2025 WNBA draft on Monday.

The former UConn Huskies star is the sixth player to go No. 1 in the WNBA draft and win a national championship in the same year — five of those six players also attended UConn, according to ESPN Research. Last season, Bueckers was the only Division I player with 30 points per game scored or assisted on with 50% FG and 40% 3-pt FG.

She joins a Wings team that includes four-time All-Star Arike Ogunbowale, as well as recent signings DiJonai Carrington, Tyasha Harris and NaLyssa Smith.

Here’s how the sports world reacted to Dallas selecting Bueckers.
