What to expect
Nintendo has tight lips when it announces a new Direct–and usually at the 11th hour–and that tradition isn’t changing this year. The company says that upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games will be highlighted, and the Nintendo Treehouse that follows the livestream will be showcasing gameplay of select titles featured during the Direct.
While Nintendo isn’t spilling any beans yet, there are reports that we could be in for a big reveal. Rumors have been circulating that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a remake, and it’s claimed that NES, SNES, and Game Boy games on Switch 2 are being enhanced with challenges for retro enthusiasts to pursue. Beyond that, Nintendo has several big first-party games on the way, like Star Fox and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
There’s also a new mainline Pokemon game out next year, and these events normally feature a healthy dose of third-party titles. This year’s Direct arrives a few days after the Switch 2 console celebrated its first anniversary, so Nintendo might mark the occasion with an announcement or two detailing what’s next for its new handheld.
