Valheim Finally Has A 1.0 Release Date

Valheim developer Iron Gate Studios has just announced that the Deep North update–which will bring the game out of early access into version 1.0–will be released on September 9, 2026. The viking survival game is also coming to two new platforms, with PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions coming soon.

Deep North has been a long time coming for Valheim fans, who have been waiting for a new major update since Ashlands released over two years ago. The game has been in early access now for over five years, while Iron Gate slowly added new biomes and features to bring Valheim closer to its finished state.

A new release date trailer gives a good look at the chilling Deep North, charting players’ journeys through the game’s biomes to the one that promises to be the most challenging yet. The trailer shows off deep snow and pack ice, frozen tunnels, massive ruins, and heaps of new enemies to terrorize players.

While much of the content of the Deep North update is still a mystery, Iron Gate has drip fed a few of the new features on the way. The new biome will feature deep snow, which players can clear by crafting a new shovel item if they want to build in the Deep North. The frozen biome will grow lingonberries, a new food item that can be used to cook a classic Swedish meatball dish.

The trailer also prominently features drawbridges, a new buildable piece that Iron Gate says has been much requested by players. As the game’s final major update, we can expect plenty of new build pieces, recipes, and other new items, but Iron Gate has yet to reveal all of the new content that’s inbound.

Valheim Deep North will release on PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 9, 2026.
