A volunteer firefighter died Thursday evening while fighting a wildfire in Moschelle, Annapolis County, according to a statement released Saturday from the Natural Resources Minister Kim Masland.

In a Facebook post, the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department identified the victim as 40-year-old Alexandru Uichita, who suffered a “sudden medical episode” during firefighting operations.

Department members responded immediately, but Uichita could not be revived. The Annapolis Royal, Lawrencetown, Digby and Bear River volunteer fire departments were also on scene.

Uichita joined the fire department in 2024. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Fellow firefighters remembered him as a “quiet leader” who cared deeply about his community.

Details regarding a memorial service have not been made public.
